It is an ancient form of therapy that creates suction on the skin with either glass, bamboo or plastic cups. It stimulates Qi (energy) and blood flow in the body to reduce pain, relax muscles and tissues and promote healing of traumatic injuries. It is also known to detox the body by drawing up the old, non-circulating, stagnated blood to the surface. Otherwise, the stagnation will create pain, stiffness and tension in the body. Many people describe cupping therapy like a deep tissue massage and feel more relaxed afterwards.
There are different types of cupping, such as stationary cupping, gliding cupping and wet cupping.
Stationary Cupping: cupping jars are placed in a treatment zone on the body. It is an effective way to draw toxins/metabolic wastes from tissues.
Gliding Cupping: cuppings jars are glided smoothly over the skin (massage oil is applied). It mimics a deep tissue massage. It is a strong therapy that people love because it can effectively release muscle tension and break down facial adhesions. Most importantly, it boosts blood and energy circulation.
Wet Cupping: small cuts are made on the skin first, then followed by placing cupping jars on top to draw blood out. This therapy is very effective in reducing inflammation in muscles. I don’t offer this service.
Here are a few benefits of cupping massage:

- Promote blood circulation in local areas
- Remove stagnated energy and blood in the muscle tissues
- Pulls out metabolic wastes and byproducts from the fluids between cells
